Katie Hohman
Partner, Plummer, Wigger & Hohman
the best in the business, determined, respected and thoughtful
one nominator
Katie Hohman has spent over a decade in New York government affairs, work colleagues describe simply: she is, as one nominator put it, "the best in the business, determined, respected and thoughtful." A Partner at Plummer, Wigger & Hohman, she previously spent six years as Managing Partner of Sheridan, Hohman and Associates and, before that, served as Legislative Director at the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), where she also worked as a county government liaison to Sheriffs, Judges, Jail Administrators, County Executives, Boards of Supervisors, Clerks of the Court, Towns, and Industrial Authorities. She began her career as a Legislative Representative at Capitol Group, LLC in Albany.
That depth of institutional knowledge — spanning economic development, public safety, public health, mental health, environment, energy, transportation, and public works — shows up directly in her client wins. Representing the New York Association of Training & Employment Professionals, Hohman spent three years working with the Legislature on an income disregard addressing the fiscal cliff public assistance recipients face; the effort succeeded in the FY23-24 budget, securing language allowing a one-time, lifetime earned-income disregard for six months after a recipient re-enters the workforce, one that follows them even if they move between social services districts. She has also represented Genesee County in its push for state water infrastructure funding, helping secure $30 million for Phase II of a generational overhaul of the county's water treatment system undertaken amid environmental and capacity risks to its current plant. As one nominator wrote, Hohman is "instrumental" to protecting the pensions and health benefits of nearly 500,000 public service retirees and their families across New York, calling her "an indispensable asset and a true powerhouse in government relations."
A marathon runner and former Division 1 swimmer, Hohman graduated from Siena College in 2009 with a BA in Political Science and earned a dual master's degree in History and Political Science from the College of Saint Rose in 2013. Peers who've worked alongside her point to her sheer output as much as her results: "Katie is incredibly knowledgeable and a work horse," one colleague wrote, crediting her with helping secure funding for training and workforce development and guiding three nominations to success in a single session alone — "among many, many other accomplishments."
