USLege, Inc. (“USLege”, “we”, “us”) provides legislative and regulatory intelligence to organizations. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

It applies to app.uslege.ai, our websites, and the software and services we provide (together, the “Service”).

In this policy, **“you” means a person who uses the Service**. Information about people who are named in the public record the Service organizes, such as legislators, officials and witnesses, is covered separately under [**People who appear in the public record**](#people-who-appear-in-the-public-record).

**This policy describes our practices. It is not a contract**, and it does not replace or limit any agreement you or your organization has with us. Where your organization has a signed agreement with USLege that addresses data handling, that agreement controls, and it will generally give you more than this policy does.

The terms that do govern your use of the Service are our [Terms of Service](/terms-and-conditions).

## What We Collect

**Information you give us**

- **Account details.** Name, work email address, and the organization you belong to.
- **Billing details.** Where you or your organization pay us directly: billing contact, address, and any tax exemption certificate.
- **Optional contact details.** A phone number, if you provide one, so we can reach you about support or billing.
- **Anything you write in the product.** Tracked bills, positions, notes, comments, tags, dashboards, saved searches and shared pages. We refer to this as your content.
- **Support correspondence.** Messages you send us and the context you include.

**Information we collect automatically**

- **Technical information.** IP address, browser and device type, operating system.
- **Usage and interaction information.** Pages viewed, features used, searches run, and login times, together with how you interact with the interface: clicks, navigation paths and form submissions. We use third-party analytics tools for this, and the specific tools may change over time.
- **Error diagnostics.** When something goes wrong, our error-monitoring tool captures a technical record of what happened: the error itself, the page you were on, your browser and device type, and a stack trace. **We do not record or replay your session, and we do not capture the contents of your screen.**
- **Cookies.** Session and authentication cookies that keep you logged in and determine what you can see, and analytics cookies that help us understand how the Service is used.

**Our application and our marketing website behave differently, so we describe them separately.**

**Inside the application (app.uslege.ai).** We do not run ads, we do not use advertising cookies, and we do not allow third parties to track you across other websites. Our analytics there are served through our own domain rather than a third-party tracker, so the cookies involved are first-party.

**On our public marketing website (uslege.ai).** Like most business websites, we use Google Analytics to understand how people find and move through the site, and a business-intelligence tool that helps us identify which **organizations** are visiting so our sales team can follow up. These set cookies, and those providers process information under their own privacy policies. This is used for marketing and sales, not for advertising to you elsewhere.

**Your choices.** Authentication cookies cannot be switched off without breaking the ability to log in. Analytics and marketing cookies can be blocked through your browser settings. If you would prefer we exclude your activity from analytics entirely, email [support@uslege.ai](mailto:support@uslege.ai) and we will do it.

**Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.** Some browsers and extensions can send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal. There is still no agreed standard for how a website should respond to Do Not Track, and **we do not currently respond automatically to either signal**. We would rather tell you that plainly than claim otherwise. If you want your activity excluded from analytics and marketing measurement, email [support@uslege.ai](mailto:support@uslege.ai) and we will do it for you.

**Information about people who appear in the public record**

The Service is built on public government records, and those records name the people who take part in the legislative process: legislators, officials, witnesses who testify, registered lobbyists, and the organizations they represent. We process that information as part of organizing the public record. [**People who appear in the public record**](#people-who-appear-in-the-public-record) below explains where it comes from and what we do and do not do with it.

**We do not ask for government identifiers, financial account numbers, or health information.**

## Why We Use It

Purpose

What this means

Providing the service

Authenticating you, showing you the right data, saving your work, running the features you use.

AI-assisted features

Sending your content to AI providers so they can generate summaries, answer your questions, and produce results for you. We do not permit them to train on it, and we do not train on it ourselves.

Support

Diagnosing problems, answering questions, restoring things you lost.

Security and abuse prevention

Detecting unauthorized access, credential sharing, scraping, and misuse.

Service communications

Notifying you about changes, incidents, renewals, and things you asked to be alerted about.

Improving the product

Understanding which features get used, in aggregated and de-identified form.

Billing and administration

Invoicing, tax, and keeping business records.

Legal compliance

Meeting our obligations and responding to lawful requests.

## What We Do Not Do

**Your data is yours.** What you and your colleagues put into the platform is visible only to your own organization and to anyone you choose to share it with. We never expose it to another customer, and **we never sell it**: not your content, not your account details, not your searches, not the records of how you use the Service. Not to another customer, not to an advertiser, not to a data broker, not to anyone, for any price, ever. **There is no exception to this.**

We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

**We do not share your personal information with advertisers**, and we do not run advertising on the service.

**We do not use your content to train AI models.** We do not use it to train, fine-tune or otherwise develop any machine learning or artificial intelligence model, and we do not use it to train, improve or evaluate any model made available to other customers or third parties. **We do not permit the AI providers we use to train on it either**, and we select providers whose terms reflect that.

This does not stop us from **processing your content with AI in order to give you a result**, which is how much of the product works, or from using **aggregated and de-identified** usage information that cannot reasonably be connected back to you.

## People Who Appear in the Public Record

Most of this policy is about information relating to the people who **use** the Service. This section is about the people who **appear in** the public record the Service organizes.

The Service is built on public government records: bill text, hearing and floor video, testimony, votes, and committee and lobbying filings. **These records are published by government bodies and available to the public before we process them.** They name the people who took part: legislators, officials, witnesses who testified, registered lobbyists, and the organizations on whose behalf they spoke.

**Where this information comes from.** From the governmental bodies that publish the record, and from publicly available professional sources, which we use to confirm who spoke and on whose behalf.

**What we do with it.** We organize, transcribe, summarize and index the public record, and we make that compiled material available to subscribers. This information is published by government bodies and available to the public before we process it.

**What we do not do.**

- **We never sell data belonging to the people and organizations who use the Service**, as set out under [**What we do not do**](#what-we-do-not-do) above.
- **We do not sell personal information as a product in its own right.** We do not compile, license or supply contact lists, personal profiles or dossiers as a standalone dataset, and we do not supply personal information to data brokers, people-search services or advertisers.
- **We do not use it to train AI models**, and we do not permit the AI providers we use to train on it.
- **We do not build advertising profiles**, and we do not track anyone across other websites.
- **We do not claim ownership of the underlying records.** Rights in government recordings remain with the governmental body or provider that produced them, and rights in bill text and other government documents are not claimed as ours. Our rights are in the platform, the materials we create, and the compilation. See our [Terms of Service](/terms-and-conditions).

**If we contact you.** We may contact professionals named in the public record about USLege, in their professional capacity, as any business may approach another business. **If you would prefer that we did not contact you, tell us at [support@uslege.ai](mailto:support@uslege.ai) and we will stop.** We honour that request from anyone, whether or not you use the Service.

You can also ask what information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Where we have added information from professional sources, such as a biography, a professional profile link or contact details, you can ask us to remove that and we will. **What we cannot remove is the public record itself.** Hearing video, testimony, votes and filings are published by the government, not by us, and we do not alter or delete the record of what was said in a public proceeding. Requests about the record itself should be directed to the governmental body that published it.

## Who We Share It With

**No third party is permitted to use your information for their own purposes.** The vendors that run our infrastructure and tooling may use it only to provide their service to us, on our instructions, and for nothing else. We do not permit the AI providers we use to train on your content. The situations below describe every case in which your information reaches anyone outside USLege.

We share personal information only in these situations:

**Service providers who help us run the platform.** We use third parties for hosting and infrastructure, database and file storage, authentication, error monitoring, product analytics, AI processing and search, quality monitoring and evaluation, background job processing, customer support, and email delivery. We also use business tools for customer relationship management, invoicing and electronic signature, which hold contact and billing details rather than the content of your work. They may process personal information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.

We do not publish a list of these providers, because it would be out of date the moment we changed one. **If you need the current list, ask us and we will provide it**, under a confidentiality agreement where appropriate.

**Your own organization.** Administrators at your organization can see who has access and may be able to see content created within their workspace.

**People you share with.** If you use a sharing feature to make content available to someone, we make it available as you directed.

**When required by law.** To comply with law or legal process, to protect rights, property or safety, or to enforce our terms. Where we are legally required to disclose your information and it is lawful to tell you, we will.

**In a business transfer.** If USLege is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

## How Long We Keep It

We keep personal information for as long as your organization’s account is active, and after that only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above. **We retain billing and tax records indefinitely as part of our permanent business and accounting records**, unless you ask us to delete them under the process below. Support correspondence and diagnostic records are kept for as long as they remain useful for troubleshooting, and are not retained indefinitely.

**On written request, at any time, we will securely delete your personal information within sixty (60) calendar days** and confirm the deletion in writing if you ask. We do not delete automatically when an account closes, so if you want your information gone, ask us.

Where the request comes from an organization that holds the account, that same commitment covers the organization’s data in the platform. Where it comes from an individual user, it covers the personal information we hold about that person, and not their organization’s work product, which belongs to the organization rather than to the individual. See **Your choices and rights** below.

That does not require us to delete:

-   billing and tax records where we have an active legal or regulatory obligation to retain them (for example, an open audit or a filing period still within its statutory window);
- copies held in routine backups made in the ordinary course, which age out on their own cycle and stay protected while held; or
- aggregated and de-identified information that cannot reasonably be connected back to you.

## Your Choices and Rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:

- **Tell you** what personal information we hold about you
- **Correct** information that is wrong or out of date
- **Delete** your personal information
- **Give you a copy** in a portable format
- **Stop sending** marketing communications

These rights cover **personal information we hold about you**: your account details, contact information, and the usage and diagnostic records described above. Deletion is subject to the limited retention exceptions described under [**How long we keep it**](#how-long-we-keep-it). They do not cover your organization’s work product in the platform, such as tracked bills, positions, notes and shared pages. That content belongs to your organization, and access to it is governed by your organization’s agreement with us rather than by this policy.

Some state privacy laws, including in **Texas**, California, Colorado, Connecticut and Virginia, give residents additional rights. We honor these requests for everyone rather than checking where you live first.

### How to Make a Request

Email **support@uslege.ai**. We will acknowledge your request and respond **within 45 days**. If we genuinely need longer, we will tell you why before that deadline and take no more than a further 45 days.

We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will ask only for what we need in order to do that. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

**Someone can make a request on your behalf.** If you use an authorized agent, we will ask for written proof that you gave them permission, and we may still verify your identity with you directly.

### If We Cannot Complete a Request in Full

**We will delete any personal information you ask us to delete, other than the limited categories described under [How long we keep it](#how-long-we-keep-it).** If there is something we cannot delete, we will tell you what and why, in writing.

You can **appeal that decision** by replying to our response, or by emailing **support@uslege.ai** with “appeal” in the subject line. Someone other than the person who made the original decision will review it, and we will give you a written answer **within 60 days**. If we still say no, we will tell you how to raise the matter with your state attorney general.

### Automated Decisions and Profiling

We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not profile you for that purpose. The AI features in the product produce results **for** you; they do not evaluate **you**.

**If your organization holds the account**, some requests are theirs to make rather than yours, and we may direct you to your administrator. We will tell you if that is the case.

## Security

We maintain administrative, physical and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information. We undergo an annual independent audit and maintain a **SOC 2 Type II report**, and we hold **TX-RAMP Level 2 certification**. Both are available under NDA on request.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you without undue delay.

## Children

The Service is for professional use. You must be 18 or older to use it, and it is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, contact [support@uslege.ai](mailto:support@uslege.ai) and we will delete it.

## Visitors From Outside the United States

USLege is based in the United States, sells United States legislative and regulatory intelligence, and processes and stores personal information in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, you are transferring information to the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

Wherever you are, you can ask us what information we hold about you or ask us to delete it, using the process described above.

**Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.** We do not load analytics or marketing trackers for visitors we identify as coming from these regions, so no non-essential cookies are set and no marketing profile is built. Only cookies strictly necessary to operate the site and keep you logged in are used. If you are in one of these regions and want to know what information we hold about you, or want it deleted, email [support@uslege.ai](mailto:support@uslege.ai).

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. If we make material changes we will post the updated version with a new effective date and notify you by email or through the service. Changes do not apply retroactively, and they do not alter the terms of a signed agreement then in effect.
